On September 24, 2024 the Henry County Sheriff's Office, in collaboration with the Virginia State Police, responded to a reported threat of a school shooting shared on Instagram.

Investigators began their work early in the day, prior to the start of classes.

The investigation revealed that the threat was directed at Martinsville City Public Schools and was made by a 15-year-old female juvenile residing in Henry County.

Law enforcement quickly located the individual, and she subsequently confessed to making the threat.

As a result, the juvenile has been charged under Virginia State Code 18.2-60 for threats of death or bodily injury to individuals on school property.

She is currently detained at the W.W. Moore Juvenile Detention Facility.

The Henry County Sheriff's Office extends its gratitude to the Virginia State Police and the Martinsville City Police Department for their prompt assistance in this matter.

The effective collaboration among these agencies played a crucial role in swiftly resolving the situation.
