World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has withdrawn from The American Express, marking his second consecutive tournament miss due to a lingering injury.

Scheffler, 28, had hoped to return to competitive play but will now take extra time to recover after suffering a hand injury over the Christmas holiday.

In a statement shared via Instagram on Monday, Scheffler explained that he had undergone minor surgery to repair a glass puncture in his right hand, which occurred while preparing for Christmas dinner. The freak injury prevented him from playing in the season-opening Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii, a premier PGA Tour event.

"After consulting with my medical team, I have made the decision to withdraw from next week's American Express tournament to give my injury more time to heal," Scheffler said in the post. "I’m disappointed to miss this event, but I’m looking forward to getting back to full strength soon."

Scheffler, who enjoyed a historic 2024 season with nine global victories, is hopeful that he will make his 2025 PGA Tour debut at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, scheduled to begin on January 30.

The iconic event is one of the most anticipated on the PGA Tour calendar, and Scheffler’s return would be a welcome boost to the tournament's star power.

Despite the injury setback, the Texan’s meteoric rise in recent years has cemented him as one of golf’s biggest stars.

In 2024, he captured multiple high-profile wins, including a dominant showing in the World Golf Championships and a major victory at the PGA Championship.

Scheffler’s absence from The American Express, a tournament he has played in previously, marks a rare gap in his schedule. His fans and the golf world are eagerly awaiting his recovery, with many hopeful that the 28-year-old will return to his dominant form once he is fully healed.

As for now, Scheffler will focus on his recovery, with his sights set on a strong return to action at Pebble Beach later this month.

Stay tuned for further updates as Scheffler works toward getting back to competitive golf.
