At approximately 4:20 PM on January 29, 2025, deputies from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of shots fired at a residence located on the 500 block of Lakewood Trail in Martinsville.
The call came after a victim, who had been discussing Brightspeed service with a client, described hearing a gunshot followed by a projectile “whizzing” past his head.
The victim reported seeing a black male carrying what appeared to be a rifle before the suspect entered a nearby residence.
Deputies quickly arrived on the scene, and upon attempting to make contact with the suspect, the individual barricaded himself inside the home.
For approximately 90 minutes, authorities negotiated with the suspect, urging him to surrender peacefully.
At around 5:50 PM, the suspect complied and exited the residence without further incident, leading to his arrest.
The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Michael Jamel Holland, residing at 580 Lakewood Trail in Martinsville. Holland, who was wanted for prior charges, is facing multiple criminal counts related to this incident, including:
Aggravated Malicious Wounding (felony)
Brandishing a Firearm (misdemeanor)
Obstruction of Justice (misdemeanor)
Probation Violations (felony and misdemeanor)
Resistance of an Officer of the Court (Henry County)
Resistance of an Officer of the Court (City of Martinsville)
Following Holland's arrest, a search warrant was executed at his residence. Authorities recovered several items, including a high-powered air rifle and suspected narcotics.
These items are currently being analyzed by the Department of Forensic Science.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the standoff, and the situation has been resolved without further threat to the community.
Holland remains incarcerated at the Henry County Adult Detention Center without bond.
