Shots Fired into Vehicle Leads to Two Arrests in Henry County

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shots fired into a vehicle on Fellowship Drive on the afternoon of January 8, 2025.


Deputies discovered an individual suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the hand upon arrival at the scene.


The investigation revealed that the alleged shooter, 57-year-old Stacey Leon Moss of 520 Fellowship Drive, had retreated into his residence following the shooting and refused to comply when law enforcement arrived.


After a period of negotiation, Moss exited the home and was taken into custody without incident.


While at the scene, deputies also identified a second individual, 46-year-old Zanthus Gerando Hairston, who was wanted on unrelated charges. Hairston, a resident of 468 Fellowship Drive, was arrested without incident.


Both Moss and Hairston are currently incarcerated at the Henry County Adult Detention Center without bond.


Charges for Stacey Moss


Stacey Leon Moss has been charged with several felonies and misdemeanors in connection to the shooting incident. The charges include:


  • Malicious Wounding (Virginia Code Section 18.2-51.2 – felony)

  • Shoot into an Occupied Motor Vehicle (2 counts – Virginia Code Section 18.2-154 – felony)

  • Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony (Virginia Code Section 18.2-53.1 – felony)

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (Virginia Code Section 18.2-308.2 – felony)

  • Reckless Handling of a Firearm (Virginia Code Section 18.2-56.1 – misdemeanor)

  • Discharge of a Firearm in a Public Place (Virginia Code Section 18.2-56.1 – misdemeanor)


Charges for Zanthus Hairston


Zanthus Gerando Hairston has been charged with Probation Violation (Virginia Code Section 19.2-306 – felony), related to a separate matter.

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the incident and is processing the scene for additional evidence.


They are urging anyone with information regarding the shooting or the individuals involved to come forward.


The Sheriff’s Office can be contacted at (276) 638-8751, and anonymous tips can be submitted through the Crimestoppers Program at 63-CRIME (632-7463). Crimestoppers offers rewards of up to $2,500 for information that leads to the resolution of crimes.


Both Moss and Hairston remain in custody as authorities continue to piece together the events leading to this violent incident.
