State Farm reminds drivers November is worst month for deer crashes


COLLINSVILLE – State Farm has released updated 2017-2018 annual deer crash data:  Here are key details:

  • Virginia is ranked number 12, down from number 11 last year. 

  • The likelihood of having a collision with a deer in Virginia is 1 in 99, a decrease of 4.7% since the 2016-2017 study.

  • Nationally the average is 1 in 167 chance of deer collision.

  • November is the worst month for crashes. October is the second followed by December.

  • Average property damage claim runs $4,341, up from $4,179 in 2017. 

  • There were 1.33 million deer claims reported to State Farm nationally from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2018.

  • Nearly 59,610 Virginia deer claims were reported from July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018. (State Farm)
