A brazen attempt to smuggle a large quantity of illegal drugs into the Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women has resulted in charges against three women from the Roanoke and Pearisburg areas.
Consquela S. Lester of Roanoke, and Jennifer K. Robbins and Courtney P. Snidow of Pearisburg, have been accused of trying to bring over $80,000 worth of contraband into the facility.
According to the Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC), the women were attempting to visit inmates on January 18 when corrections officers seized approximately 100 Buprenorphine and Naloxone strips.
The VADOC estimates the value of the seized drugs at around $80,000.
The three women have been charged with delivery of drugs to an inmate, as well as manufacturing, selling, giving, distributing, or possessing with intent to manufacture, sell, give, or distribute a controlled substance or an imitation controlled substance prohibited.
Robbins faces an additional count of delivery of drugs to an inmate.
The VADOC has announced that additional charges are pending against two current inmates in connection with the attempted smuggling operation.
VADOC Director Chad Dotson praised the efforts of his team in preventing the introduction of contraband into the facility. "Their dedication to keeping our facilities drug and contraband free is so important to our public safety mission," he said.
Dotson encouraged anyone with information about attempted smuggling to come forward, emphasizing that such tips could potentially save lives.
