Two Killed in Bedford County Crash; State Police Investigating

BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (BTW21) – Virginia State Police are investigating a tragic two-vehicle crash in Bedford County that claimed the lives of two Roanoke residents Sunday afternoon.
The collision occurred at approximately 2:09 p.m. on April 27 at the intersection of Route 460 and Route 698.
According to state police, a 2005 Toyota Tacoma attempted to turn onto eastbound Route 460 from the crossover but failed to yield the right-of-way.
The vehicle was struck by a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban traveling on Route 460.
The driver of the Toyota, 77-year-old Charles L. Schlotthober, and his passenger, 76-year-old Ellen P. Schlotthober, were both wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Tragically, both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Chevrolet Suburban sustained injuries and was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.
The extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.
Virginia State Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
