Two men die in related crashes in Henry County

HENRY COUNTY, VA – One man was found dead inside an overturned vehicle and another man was found dead in the road Wednesday morning after related crashes in Henry County.

The Virginia State Police say they responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck on Route 220, just south of the 220 Bypass exit ramp in Bassett Forks at 2:23 a.m.

Police say they found 21-year-old Ezequiel Santiago España, of Martinsville, who was hit by a tractor-trailer on the northbound lanes of Route 220.

Just south of that, police located an overturned 2014 Hyundai Sonata with 24-year-old Breyner Dominguez, of Martinsville, dead inside.

The investigation found that around 2:10 a.m., the Hyundai was going north on Route 220, when it ran off the right side of the road, through a guardrail and overturned killing Dominguez.

España exited the vehicle, and was walking in the road, when he was struck by the tractor-trailer a short distance from the crash, according to state police.

The tractor-trailer driver was not injured and no charges are pending.

Dominguez was not wearing his seatbelt, according to authorities.

It has not been determined which of the victims was driving the Hyundai.

Police collected DNA samples from the airbags to determine the position of the occupants during the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
