Two Students in Custody After Report of Student with Gun at McMichael High School Wednesday


MAYODAN – Wedneday morning, Rockingham County 9-1-1 Dispatchers received word that a student had a handgun in his vehicle in the parking lot area of Dalton McMichael High School located at 6845 NC-135, Mayodan, N.C.

The High School was placed on lockdown at the request of the Sheriff's Office and SRO Sgt. Shane Woodall, Sheriff's Deputies and officers from the Madison and Mayodan Police Departments quickly arrived at the school and located the reported vehicle. Officers located a handgun in the floorboard of the vehicle which, after closer examination, was determined it to be a BB gun.

The owner of the vehicle, a 19 year old student at Dalton McMichael High School and a juvenile student had the gun out and had been handling it just prior to the officers' arrival. The 19 year old student was also found to be in possession of a pocket knife. Both students were taken into custody and the BB gun and knife were seized by SRO Sgt. Woodall.

ARRESTED:

NICHOLAS GENE KISER, 19, of 465 Stanely Rd. Stokesdale, N.C. Charged by SRO Sgt. Shane Woodall with bringing Weapons On Campus/Educational Property. He was placed in the Rockingham County Detention Facility under a $10,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 26th.


The second student that was taken into custody was a juvenile. The juvenile and information collected in this investigation have been turned over the the Office of Juvenile Justice. Identifying information about this juvenile student such as name, age, sex, etc., will not be released by the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office.
