
On the afternoon of February 18, the Danville Police Department is pleased to announce that the officer who was shot multiple times on Monday, February 17, has been released from Carilion Hospital in Roanoke.
The officer is now back at home and beginning the recovery process.
The Danville Police Department, alongside the City of Danville, would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Carilion Health System Police Department and the Roanoke Police Department, who provided invaluable support to our officer even before they arrived at the hospital.
We also extend our thanks to all regional law enforcement partners—local, state, and federal—who have provided steadfast support during this challenging time.
Additionally, we want to acknowledge the overwhelming presence of law enforcement agencies that escorted our officer and their family back home to Danville from Roanoke.
These agencies include Roanoke Police Department, Carilion Health System Police Department, Virginia State Police, Vinton Police Department, Virginia Western Police Department, Roanoke County Police Department, Roanoke County Sheriff's Office, Roanoke City Sheriff's Office, Roanoke Blacksburg Public Safety, Norfolk Southern Police Department, Salem Police Department, Franklin County Sheriff's Office, Roanoke Fire and EMS, Bassett Volunteer Fire Department, and others who assisted along the way.
The officer’s recovery is ongoing, and the department continues to thank the public for their thoughts, prayers, and support during this difficult period.
