Virginia State Police are investigating a three-vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday, January 21, at approximately 3:02 p.m. on Route 460 at the intersection with Laymantown Road.
The crash involved a 2017 GMC Sierra, a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer, and a 2016 Mack dump truck.
According to the investigation, the GMC Sierra was traveling east on Route 460 when it failed to yield the right-of-way while making a left turn onto Laymantown Road.
The Sierra was struck by a westbound Freightliner tractor-trailer. The impact caused the Freightliner to veer off the right side of the road, where it overturned.
Following the initial collision, the GMC Sierra also struck a Mack dump truck that was stopped at the stop sign on Laymantown Road.
The driver of the GMC, identified as Erdie M. Trigg III, 73, of Troutville, Va., was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured. Mr. Trigg has been charged with failing to yield the right-of-way.
Both truck drivers were wearing seatbelts and sustained injuries in the crash. They were transported for medical treatment, though their conditions have not been disclosed.
The crash remains under investigation by the Virginia State Police. Motorists are reminded to exercise caution and adhere to traffic laws, particularly at busy intersections.
Further details will be provided as they become available.
