The Virginia State Police is currently investigating a single-vehicle crash that resulted in the death of the driver late Sunday night.
The crash occurred on February 23, 2025, at approximately 10:40 p.m. on Interstate 81, roughly one mile north of Route 232.
According to state police, a 2025 Volvo NVL tractor was traveling northbound on I-81 when the vehicle veered off the left side of the roadway.
The truck then struck the guardrail and overturned, coming to a stop off the highway.
The driver of the Volvo has been identified as 49-year-old Damon Elliott Joseph of Lafayette, Louisiana.
Joseph was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash but tragically succumbed to injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Virginia State Police is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, and no further details have been released at this time.
The crash remains under active investigation, and authorities are working to piece together the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident.
State Police urge anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has additional information to come forward.
