
The Virginia State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that resulted in a fatality early Tuesday morning, January 21, 2025.
The collision occurred at approximately 12:53 a.m. on Interstate 64, two miles west of Dabney Drive in Alleghany County.
According to the preliminary investigation, a 2025 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling east in the westbound lanes of the interstate, making it a wrong-way driver situation.
The Jetta collided head-on with a Kenworth tractor-trailer that was traveling west.
The driver of the Volkswagen, identified as Edmond Thomas Floyd, 86, of Buena Vista, Va., was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Tragically, Mr. Floyd succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, whose identity has not been released, was wearing a seatbelt. He sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital. He has since been treated and released.
The Virginia State Police have confirmed that the crash remains under investigation.
