
STANLEYTOWN, VA – A wanted Henry County man was arrested after he hid in an attic with a gun during a standoff on Tuesday.
At around 11:45 a.m., the Henry County Sheriff’s Office says they were at 476 Henry Street in Stanleytown trying to find a wanted man.
While there, a deputy says he recognized a man who was armed with a rifle and identified him as 35-year-old Tommy Joe Strothers Jr.
When the deputy approached Strothers, who was wanted on outstanding warrants, he went into the house.
The sheriff’s office says deputies tried to make contact with Strothers, but he refused to come out.
A search warrant was then obtained to enter the house.
Negotiators made numerous unsuccessful attempts to contact Strothers and a tactical unit made entry into the house at around 3:15 p.m.
According to the sheriff’s office, Strothers was found hiding in the attic and was taken into custody.
Tommy Strothers Jr. was arrested on the following outstanding charges:
Felony capias fail to obey court order from Patrick County
Misdemeanor home electronic incarceration violation also from Patrick County
Misdemeanor capias fail to appear from Henry County
In addition, he was charged with misdemeanor obstruction of justice in the barricading incident.
He is being held in the Henry County Jail without bond.
