HENRY COUNTY, VA – The Henry County School Board has approved the appointment of Roy "Richie" Weaver as the new director of finance during their monthly meeting.
Weaver will be taking over from Dr. Benjamin Boone, who was previously promoted to assistant superintendent for operations and administrative services in the fall of 2023 and has been fulfilling both roles since then.
Weaver had served as a secondary math teacher, assistant principal, and principal.
He joined the county schools in 2019 as an assistant principal at Bassett High School after spending over twenty years as an administrator in a North Carolina public school system.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the opportunity, Weaver stated, "I am very excited and grateful to begin this new opportunity as the Director of Finance for Henry County Schools."
He emphasized his commitment to effectively managing the school system's financial resources to support the goals and priorities of students and staff.
Dr. Amy Blake-Lewis, division superintendent, highlighted the importance of the finance director's role in funding programs and staffing necessary for student success.
She praised Weaver's understanding of student and staff needs and expressed anticipation for his contributions in the new position.
Weaver holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics education and a Masters in School Administration, both from North Carolina State University.
He is set to assume his role effective July 1.
