Woman, two children escape from SUV after it plunges into pond

HENRY COUNTY – A woman and two children managed to escape from a vehicle after it plunged into a Henry County pond.

At around 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, a gray in color Mazda CX-5 ran off of Rich Acres School Road, went through a fence and ended mostly submerged in a private pond.

State police told BTW21 News on scene that they could not provide other information other than that the SUV ran off the road and went into the pond.

Police said they didn't get a chance to speak to the driver and that the investigating trooper was headed to Sovah Health in Martinsville to interview her.

The woman was taken to the ER to be evaluated and the two children were not injured, according to police.

The Ridgeway District Volunteer Fire Department, Ridgeway District Volunteer Rescue Squad and the Henry County Department of Public Safety assisted on scene.
